and Small Ministry Services
We have added a business
component that trains and consults to small and medium
churches, and small evangelical ministries, including foreign missions.
These associates charge significant lower fees to qualifying
churches and ministries (by size and budget). They are
backed up by Broadbaker senior associates for a modest fee.
Financial
Oversight:
We can train and advise such
organizations and their boards on how to achieve
responsible, protective financial control to prevent (or
turn around) entering the dangerous zone of insolvency (see
especially Ron Mattocks, Zone of Insolvency, John
Wiley and Sons, 2008), what guidelines and policies boards
should set (and why), and how to monitoring and enforce.
This is an absolutely vital part of board responsibility,
and boards, especially those of churches and small
ministries are inadequately trained nor do they govern
effectively in this area. Even if boards may know
appropriate financial "guidelines," they often don't know
how to convert them to policies, much less how to monitor
effectively or how to enforce them. Without monitoring and
enforcement, governance is meaningless and impotent (see
a Nov 2009 blog).
Board Governance:
Our associates are trained
sufficiently to train and coach evangelical ministries in the fundamentals of
Policy Governance. We conceptualize Policy Governance
expertise by levels, with level IV and V being Carver
Academy trained and increasingly sophisticated and informed
in the relevant law, finances, monitoring, ends thinking and
planning, board dynamics and facilitation. Small churches
and ministries do not necessarily need this level and we can
provide level III (up through training and basic coaching)
for a lower fee.
Organizational Performance:
One of our associates is
extremely seasoned and experienced as a a foreign
missionary, and a pastor of 3 evangelical churches; besides
theologically and pastorally trained, he is trained in
ministry organizational behavior and dynamics. He consults
in church polity and dynamics and can assist churches in
grace-based conflict resolution, including elder and/or
board-pastor conflict. he also understands and is a level
III consultant in Policy Governance.
